This box is truly one of a kind. Every image was taken on ranches in Montana from April through June of 2026. I have spent years photographing on working land, and The Rangelands is my way of sharing just how wild and important these places can be to conservation. I think it’s critical that more people connect with them if they are to be protected in the future.
This box represents what can be seen in these vast, seemingly empty landscapes when we take the time to step out into them.
One of the fastest-declining ecosystems in North America has been and remains its grasslands and prairies. The images and notes in the journal offer a rare glimpse into the quiet parts of these places—places that are driven through far more often than they are observed in person.
Inside the box you’ll find a journal with my notes and images from three months spent photographing two ranches this spring; two historical artifacts, including a look into the life of one of the great naturalists and photographers of the American West, Evelyn Cameron, during the settlement of the frontier; two postcards featuring images from the same ranches in the journal; two prints; two informational cards related to the deep beauty of the Great Northern Plains; and some other included surprises.
